About[]
Rampage is the second track off of Observatory Mansions by Nicole Dollanganger. There is an acoustic demo of this song that was meant to be on Ode To Dawn Wiener: Embarrassing Love Songs but is currently unreleased.
Background[]
The song samples audio from the movie, Zero Hour, and of Eric Harris acting in a homemade video called, Hitmen for Hire. Dollanganger has, on several occasions, stated what the song is truly about. She said:
Rampage isn’t about Columbine, I was just using the (really strong/passionate) reaction a lot of girls have towards Eric Harris and/or Dylan Klebold as a way to talk about something else. The song is about people who believe that because they love a violent person (or a violent person loves them) they won’t hurt them. Also, a belief that giving a really violent person love will prevent them from acting out or doing bad things.
And again:
The song is about believing that a violent person will not be violent towards you just because you love them/they love you. My big mistake was referencing Eric and using the sound clip of Hitmen for Hire. But it was an easy way, I thought, to get the message across. You spend any amount of time reading about Columbine and you’re going to come across a very large community of people, predominantly girls, who express deep, emotional and romantic feelings for Eric Harris and/or Dylan Klebold, and the general consensus between them all is the whole.. “I wish I could’ve been there for him, I wish I could’ve given him love, helped him..” and nothing reminds me more of feelings I’ve had in the past to people I knew were violent fuckers than that shit. I think a lot of people would argue me on this, but I don’t believe for a second that if a girl had come along and shown Eric Harris love and warmth that he would have never acted out violently. I don’t think there was an easy solution with him. And I wouldn’t doubt that someone like him would be able to take out that aggression and hatred on someone he loved, or someone who loved him.
Lyrics[]
I hear him screaming like late night white trash TV stations
Black combat boots pacing in through the school building
He’s gonna fight the good fight; The Noble War
Yeah, my baby has a baby but it’s not me
It’s an AK47 semi-automatic gun and
He loves her more than he loves me
(Eric Harris speaking)
I don't care what you say. If you ever touch him again, I will freaking kill you. I'll pull out a goddamn shotgun and blow your damn head off. Do you understand? Little worthless piece of crap.
Gunslinger, black duster, delusions of a western
He wears his hat on backwards, sets fire to his locker
He’s gonna fight the good fight; The Noble War
Yeah, my baby has a baby but it’s not me
It’s an AK47 semi-automatic gun and
He loves her more than he loves me
I’ll bet you’ve never seen the smile of Savage-Springfield 67H
With his blurry face and cracked voice gone through VHS tapes
(Zero Hour audio)
Yeah, my baby has a baby but it’s not me
It’s an AK47 semi-automatic gun and
He loves her more than he loves me
