About

Lacrymaria Olor is the tenth track off of Heart Shaped Bed by Nicole Dollanganger.

Background

The 2018 Stereogum interview revealed that the song, recorded in Pennsylvania in the fall, begins and ends with Dollanganger’s own voice pitch-shifted and warped beyond recognition.

Lacrymaria Olor is a species of ciliates - a single-celled animal - that is found in freshwater ponds. Its name means "swan tear" or "tear of a swan" in Latin. Furthermore, it is one of the only living species who can grow a new head within minute if theirs is decapitated. It came into strange alignment with the cover art for Heart Shaped Bed; the depiction of Dollanganger, decapitated, on the cover of the record.

The second verse of the song is a portion of the demo titled, He Went Away, that was posted to Tumblr on January 6, 2016.

Lyrics

Album Version

Isn't it strange how you and I
Spend the best part of our time just saying goodbye?
Maybe things don't end the way we thought they always might
Just saying goodbye, goodbye

Like a silent era star
I'm all eyes, I can't find the words
I just cry as he holds me in his arms
One last time

He went away
I stood at the door and I waved
I let him go
He does not know
I’ll miss him everyday

Like a silent era star
I'm all eyes, I can't find the words
I just cry as he holds me in his arms
One last time

Demo

He went away
I stood at the door and I wave
I let him go
He does not know
I'll miss him everyday

He went away
I did not know what to say
So I let him go
He does not Know
I'll miss him everyday
