Beautiful & Bad was released as a single on February 28, 2016. On February 17, 2017, a different version of the same length was added to Cute Aggression. This version has the same lyrics and vocal takes, but a different instrumental. Matt Tomasi helped produce and write these two versions. On December 18, 2019, a "heavy version" of the song was added to Heart Shaped Bed demos, b sides.
The title is a reference to Taryn's line in A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987).
